Peer Review Process and Policies
Manuscripts must be submitted to the Associate Editors via email at socialsciencesreview@pup.edu.ph. The submitting author, who is generally the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript during the submission and peer-review process. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors have been included in the author and that they have all read and approved the submitted version of the manuscript.
All manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor. After submission, these manuscripts will undergo a pre-check by managing editor in collaboration with the editor-in-chief for plagiarism, academic rigor, and suitability for the journal. This process usually takes 1-2 weeks depending on number of submissions.
If it passes the initial check, the manuscripts will go through a double-blind review in which the identities of the referees and the author are concealed from all parties, otherwise they will be desk rejected by the journal and the author will be notified immediately via email by the editor-in-chief. In some exceptional cases, the article will be returned to the author for revision and resubmission.
Guidance to Authors
Manuscripts for SSDR must neither be published previously nor submitted to other journals or publications for consideration for publication. Manuscripts should be limited from 6,000 to 8,000, excluding abstract, footnotes, and references.
The SSDR uses APA 7th Edition (link below for the citation guideline).

The Editor or members of the Editorial Board may occasionally submit their own manuscripts for possible publication in the journal. However, the peer review process will be managed by alternative members of the Board and the submitting Editor/Board member will not involve in the decision-making process.
Before submitting to SSDR, the corresponding author must ensure that the following are complied with:
- Journal’s word limit is observed.
- Two sets of manuscript must be submitted: one with author details and another as anonymized, ready for peer review in case it passes the initial check.
- All essential elements of an academic article are present.
- All citations in the text correspond with the references
- Article follows the journal’s guidance
- Submission uses the journal’s template
- Article has not been previously published or submitted to other journals for consideration
- All authors have substantially contributed to the content of the article
- Student is the corresponding author and the rest as co-authors in case the article is based on a student’s thesis or research work.
Corresponding author must submit the article using the SSDR Journal template for faster publication in case it passed the peer-review and get accepted by the journal.
Criteria for Authorship
All authors whose names appear on the submission
- made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; or the creation of new software used in the work;
- drafted the work or revised it critically for important intellectual content;
- approved the version to be published; and
- agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
- All parties who have substantial contribution to the article should be listed as authors. Principal authorship, authorship order, and other publication credits should be based on the relative scientific or professional contributions of the individuals involved, regardless of their status. A student is usually listed as principal author on any multiple-authored publication that substantially derives from the student’s dissertation or thesis.
One author is assigned as Corresponding Author to every submission and acts on behalf of all co-authors on matters concerning the editorial process of the article.
The following are the main responsibilities of the Corresponding Author:
- Ensure that all listed authors have approved the manuscript before submission, including the names and order of authors.
- Manage all communication between the Journal and all co-authors, before and after publication.
- Provide transparency on re-use of material and mention any unpublished material (for example manuscripts in press) included in the manuscript in a cover letter to the Editor.
- Make sure that disclosures, declarations, and transparency on data statements from all authors are included in the manuscript if necessary.
